Welcome to Chapter #194

Welcome to NAWIC! The National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) was formed in 1953 by 16 women in the construction industry in Fort Worth, Texas.  Currently, there are approximately 160 chapters nationwide with almost 5,000 members.  Globally, NAWIC has affiliates in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa and the United Kingdom.  NAWIC’s core purpose is “To enhance the success of women in the construction industry” and, thus, advances the causes of all women in construction, from tradeswomen to business owners.

The Grand Rapids Chapter #194 was chartered in 1973. Our chapter membership meetings involve industry speakers, jobsite tours and other great learning experiences.  Along with these local learning opportunities, there are the industry continuing education programs for certifications through the NAWIC Education Foundation (NEF).  Certifications include the Certified Construction Associate (CCA), Construction Document Specialist (CDS), Construction Industry Technician (CIT), and Certified Bookkeeping Technician (CBT).  Both locally and nationally there are competitions held for students in grades 1-6 at the Block Kids event and a CAD/Design/Drafting event for those in high school.  We also focus on raising money for scholarships to assist recipients in their construction related college education.
